CarmenN asked:

I want to invest in a cookware set that’s going to be durable and last a few years.l see the professionals use the stainless steel but never used it.I want to know the best set for the money and easy to keep clean. I have read all kinds of reviews but am still confused. Please help!
I really like the stainless look, and glass lids!

  1. I use the Wolfgang Puck Cafe Collection. It’s 18/10 stainless (the best you can buy), and I’m loving it. I got it at Sam’s Club.

I avoid nonstick cookware because of the teflon coating. To make any stainless steel pan/pot nonstick, just spray it with cooking oil spray.
    a review about the cookware

  2. I never like sets.. I’d rather have a pot designed to do it’s job that is perfect for it, than a whole set made out of it.

For example, I love my Le Cruest Dutch (well, “French”) Oven. But I would not desire an LC skillet. For skillets, I prefer a nonstick inner surface. For saucapans, I prefer both nonstick and stainless varieties, depending upon what I’m preparing in them. Plus, they go i the dishwasher. And I like a glass lid on a skillet and saucepan, something I do not need or desire on a Dutch oven (which is good, since LC doens’t make glass lids).

Hard anodized will discolor and become w hite and cloudy in the DW. This does not bother me, but if it does you, hand wash them or don’t buy it.

That said… if you absolutely must buy a set, I’ll say that I like the looks and heft of Rachael Ray’s line of cookware w/ a painted exterior and glass lids, nearly all of it is nonstick. Ialso like the looks of Wolfgang Puck’s stainless stuff, most of which is not nonstick.

Avoid QVC’s “cooks essentials” line at all costs. The nonstick coating comes off in less than a year, even using proper utensils in them.

  3. Don’t buy anything that says “tramontina” on it, pure garbage. An inexpensive line that is durable and holds up well, and performs quite nicely is actually t-fal, you can get a set for under a hundred dollars. I don’t know how serious you are about cooking, but I have everything from all-clad to calphalon and even crummy stuff, and I cook a lot. I would get a few pieces of commercial grade calphalon non-stick, they really perform nicely, and then supplement it with some T-fal for everyday cooking like grilled cheese and heating up cans of corn.
Also be sure to get a steamer insert if you can.

  4. I have Lagostina. It is stainless steel with glass lids and I just love it. 8 yrs. now and I’ve never had anything stick to the pots. I like the glass lids because I like to watch what’s cooking. Buy them at Sears.

  5. The new green pans by Todd English that they sell on Home Shopping Network are the best!

  6. I agree with sugarpie. I like to mix and match to get the exact pieces I want.

The best cost is no object is Le Crusset, Staub, All Clad or Cuisinart Multiclad.

The best pans are going to be porcelin coated cast iron, annodized alluminum or multilayer stainless steel. I have Le Crusset pots, and MOSTLY Cuisinarts budget line called “chef’s classic”. I recommend two nonstick pans an 8 and 12 inch for all those things we cook but dont want to do alot of clean up on. Get good ones not cheap ones, but don’t consider them an investment like your other pots and pans. A good nonstick will last 3-4 years.

There are some surprisingly good buys. Lodge Logic enamel is awesome, .The wolfgang puck the other person mentioned is excellent although I prefer the kirkland brand from costco, they are more ergonomic.

Tramontina stainless is real very good value but their nonstick isn’t so good and of course the new Farberware and Revereware and kitchenaid are great vlaues.
